JUST BROUGHT IT HOME?

A good start, in three steps.

  1. Give the long roots room in a suitably deep container.
  2. Choose a bright position with shelter from extreme heat.
  3. Check soil moisture before watering.

Light & placement

Grow in sun or partial shade. In very hot conditions, some afternoon shade can help. Indoors, provide enough light for steady replacement leaves.

Water & drainage

Keep the mix evenly moist and draining. A deep container accommodates its root system; avoid letting the pot repeatedly dry hard.

Harvest & shape

Cut mature outer stems near the base, leaving the central growing point intact. Take only part of the plant at a time.

Growing well

Parsley is biennial: it commonly flowers in its second season. Sow or buy replacements for a continuing leaf supply. Feed potted plants lightly while growing.

When something looks wrong

A tall central flowering stem can be a normal life-stage change. Yellow leaves warrant checking moisture, crowded roots, and nutrition before adding fertilizer. Slow seedlings are normal; parsley is not a fast starter.

Your plant sets the pace. Check its moisture cue above, not a fixed weekly schedule.

Three things to avoid.

  • Clipping only leaf tops and leaving bare stalks.
  • Removing the growing center.
  • Expecting the same plant to stay leafy forever.
